Another problem with the upgrade is that many popular Scala libraries started to support the third version very late or have not started it at all yet. So even if you managed to upgrade your application, you still have to use dependencies from the previous major version of the language, with all the risks of compatibility.

Scala running into many of the same problems as ruby and python on their major breaking change updates.
